The concrete monument has a number of statues representing the services alongside plates commemorating those who died in the Franco-Thai dispute of 1943. Foreign dignitaries lay wreaths here on official visits. Like Democracy Monument, Victory Monument is at the centre of a roundabout and an even busier road network. As such, you can’t really wander over to take a look. However, it is very dominant in the skyline and you can study it from many vantage points around Victory Monument. It probably isn’t worth a visit in its own right, but the surrounding area is full of great shops and restaurants. Even if you don’t make a special visit to see it, you’ll probably get to see it during your wanderings around the city.

          The world-famous Golden Triangle refers to the point where the borders of three countries -- Laos, Thailand and Myanmar meet. It is located about 8 to 9 kilometers north of the old town of Chiang Saen and lies along the road which runs parallel to the Mae Khong River. This area is locally referred to as Sop Ruak.

Tourists can actually stand here and watch the Mae Khong River meeting the Ruak River flowing in from Burma, creating the widely popular ‘Golden Triangle’. They can just relax and enjoy the view of the lush green rice fields, pristine natural beauty and the distant mountains from this point. The view of the Golden Triangle becomes all the more clear and distinct when one climbs over the Doi Chiang Miang by the side of the Mekong River.

Accommodation, in the form of hotel rooms and huts, is available for tourists who want to stay here overnight. Tourists can hire boats for upstream trips along the Khong River to view the Golden Triangle. The entire trip takes only 40 minutes. Alternatively, boats can also be rented to cruise downstream from Sop Ruak along the Mae Khong River to Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong. The entire trip takes approximately an hour. The duration of these boat rides can vary widely depending on the level of the water during that season, flow of the river and on the water currents.

A very interesting place to visit within the Golden Triangle Park is the ‘Hall of Opium’, where tourists can learn about a wide variety of issues related to opium such as its history, its natural properties, its uses, stories of the opium wars, and the problems caused by opium (along with a mild message about refraining from opium smoking and trading).

           Doi Pui Peak has a cold weather all the year. Bird watching is an activity here where more than 300 species of birds live. There's an area for tent camping that can accommodate up to 250 visitors.

 

4 Km from the National Park office, there is a Phu Ping Palace (Bhubing Palace), a winter palace for the royal family. The palace features flower gardens, beautiful landscape and buildings. It opens daily from 08:30 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. for visitors but will be closed during the royal visit: January - March. The admission fee is 50 Baht.

   

Within Doi Pui area, there's the Hmong Tribal Village. The village is about 4 kilometers away from Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. It offers an insight into how Thailand’s tribes live. The villagers wear traditional Hmong clothes, sell traditional Hmong handicrafts, and live in traditional Hmong-style homes. A visit to the Tribal Village is often combined with a visit to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep and some of the waterfalls in the area, as well as a jaunt to the Hilltribes Museum.

                   Pattaya has a number of islands in its vicinity of which “Koh Lan” is the largest. The island is somewhat an extension of the mainland activities, featuring water sports such as diving snorkeling, windsurfing, waterskiing and para-sending. A key attraction is boats sailing around the island for sightseeing purposes. Some of the boats have glass bottoms enabling passengers to see coral and marine life at the bottom of the sea.

It is famed for the locally made handicrafts that are made from a wide variety of materials such as silk, fabric, ceramic, metal, glass, wood and etc. In addition, Chiang Mai also organizes a Saturday Evening Walking Street on Wua Lai road which runs from Chiang Mai gate, on the south side of the old city, towards the airport. Both Thai and foreign tourists are enjoy walking and shopping here.
